5 Strategies for a Bathroom Remodel

5 Strategies for a Bathroom Remodel

You’ve been saying it for years, but you have finally decided that it’s time to renovate that bathroom, and this time you mean it! It’s outdated, not functional, and just not your taste.

Luckily for you we’ve compiled a list to help you tackle this project, step by step.

  • Have a plan and stick to it.

There is no room for improvising when it comes to a bathroom remodel.  Map out what exactly you want to do to your bathroom, and how much you are willing to spend.  This will give you parameters to work with.

  • Keep the same footprint for your bathroom.

new-bathroom.jpgIf you can, put new plumbing fixture where, or near, current fixtures. This will save you money on demolition and reconstruction.  Don’t re-pipe your entire bathroom if you don’t have to.

  • Make the new lighting a priority for your bathroom.

After all, it is the room where majority of the everyday grooming occurs.  Shopping for lightbulbs means you will have to pay attention to lumens- this is the amount of light you get from a bulb (i.e. brightness).  For specific bathroom areas, the Lighting Research Center recommends:

    • Toilet: 45 lumens
    • Sink: 450 lumens
    • Vanity: 1,680 lumens
  • Don’t forget your bathroom ventilation system.

They may not be within plain sight, but you shouldn’t ignore them during a remodel. Ventilation systems are important for removing humidity from your bathroom that fog mirrors, and contribute to the growth of mold and mildew. Controlling this humidity and mold is important for maintaining indoor air quality, and even the value of your home. You can easily avoid mold with a proper system in place.

  • Think about storage.

This can be the challenging part, and if you have a smaller bathroom you have to get creative, but if you think about it ahead of time you’ll be in good shape.  A good place that many people don’t utilize is the space above the toilet where you can have a shelving unit, or that space between wall studs can creative a cute, useful niche for soaps and toiletries.

As you can see, there are a lot of things to take into consideration when tackling that bathroom renovation.  Luckily for you, there are places like GNH Lumber who has professionals that are there for you every step of the way.  They will ensure that your dream bathroom becomes a reality, and everything is completed to perfection.
