Useful Tips for a Kitchen Redesign

Useful Tips for a Kitchen Redesign

Remodeling your kitchen is a big decision.  Not only are you creating a more attractive and user-friendly space, you’re making a significant investment in the value of your home. So, you want to make sure that you get the most out of your kitchen remodel from the beginning.

Here are some tips to keep in mind as you plan your new kitchen redesign:

  1. Make a plan

Create a kitchen plan by measuring your kitchen space and drawing a scale outline of it.

Remember to note the location of important services such as electrical sockets, gas points, hot and cold water, etc.

  1. Decide on a layout

Your kitchen should be a functional space, so choose a layout that makes sense for you.

If it’s a smaller kitchen, maybe you want to look into having the cabinets go to the ceiling for more storage space.  If you have a larger space and want a kitchen island, figure out what you want the function of that island to be.

Also keep in mind that you want to have a short distance between storage, preparation and cooking – aka the “work triangle”.

  1. Choose your style

The possibilities are endless when it comes to the finishes available for your kitchen cabinets and countertops!

From all of your natural woods, to stone, manmade stone, and wood laminates, there is something for every style and budget.  If you’re not one to keep up with the trends, seek the help of a professional at your local GNH.

At this stage of your redesign you should also be thinking about the ceiling, floor, and walls to make sure everything flows.

  1. Check the final design

Before old cabinets are torn down, be sure to go over the finalized plan one more time with your contractor down to every last detail. If you have any questions – ask!
